FS/trade: 1991 CBR1000 Project - easy fixer $1300 obo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got a 1991 CBR1000F.
Back in the "old" days - this was a pretty darn quick literbike/superbike. It was known for its reasonable handing, excellent fit/finish quality, and performance. It's not a match for the literbikes of today, but it still pulls on the majority of the mid-CC sport bikes out there.
The bike retains the original OEM plastics. It's been well taken care of until just recently. All the plastics were original and until just recenly it had never been laid down. Paint was in good shape - the only faded piece was the front fender.
Good news:
Well maintained - radiator is clean, fluids were completely flushed in 2004.
Carbs rebuilt/cleaned in 2004.
K&N jet kit (I haven't verified the jetting by opening the carbs - but it does have the filter)
Bike starts easily and runs very well.
Not crapped up with old brake fluid, old gas, etc.
Oil is clean.
No leaks of any kind. No mechanical issues with the bike.
Bike runs and rides currently and can be test ridden. I've ridden it around the block several times, no shifting issues - no problems that I can detect.
It has a linked braking system that is a bit unusual, but works well.
New tires (<500 miles)
Chain needs clean up but is in good shape and not streched.
Rear sprocket is fine (can't see the front)
Everything works - all instrumentation, switches, etc.
Frame is straight, forks are not bent, all switches, bars, etc are working and in good shape.
Engine great shape. No leaks. No problems. Radiator / oil cooler, etc - no problems. No damage.
Clean (bonded) title - ask me if you don't know what this means, but it's a non-issue. It's not a salvage title or any other type that would decrease title, it means the title was lost and someone posted a bond to recover it.
I can run a compression test if you're worried about the motor. I'm honest to the best of my knowledge regarding the things I sell.
The bad:
Bike was laid down in a low speed high-side. It took a decent crunch to the upper fairing area and broke the rider's collar bone. Damage includes:
Upper fairing and fairing stay.
Instrument cluster casing (avialable seperately)
tank (bar impacted the tank - big dent)
Misc upper inner fairings/trim.
No slide scratches. Bike has a big steel frame and is designed to take a crash (has built in sliders). All the other fairings look to be in good shape. Minor cracks here and there..
What would you need to do to fix it?
Replace the fairing stay, upper fairing, instrument cover. Ideally replace the tank. If you pay retail honda price, it's not worth fixing.
To ride it, bend the fairing stay back in place, deal with the open broken fairing.
It's normal to see people parting these things on ebay. I don't have the patience to wait for the right color plastic set and I'm not interested in the time it would take to repaint. I have 4 other motorcycles.. simply put, I can only ride one at a time...
This is not a good beginner bike. It's heavy, ~600 lbs and that alone will get a new rider in trouble with a low speed turn.
I'm asking $1300 obo or consider a trade for another interesting toy.. Partial trades considered...
Please email me.. Do not PM me, I don't read my PMs very often.
I have photos via email - I'll try and host them later.
