I don't like that poping sound when I shift from 1st to second. Is that normal for all motorcycles? Some times the rpms are low and I don't hear a thing. Other times it's a knock.

It's because you're skipping through neutral when shifting from first to second. As long as it doesn't get really bad or your start missing shifts and such, it's fine.

yeah when I was first learning how to ride and stuff this freaked me out, but my boyfriend (jaynd) told me that it was normal and not to worry and since then I have become a better rider and shifter obviously and I hardly ever experience the "pop"... don't worry about it man.

I agree with what others have said, I used to hear it all the time when I first got the bike, now it's once in a blue moon. Once you get the "feel" for shifting it will "pop" less. I guess you could also 1/2 shift into N and then into 2nd? I wouldn't recommend that though, when I'm rolling I like to be able to adjust my speed instead of just revving :-D

Don't do N then 2nd. Get it wrong and you'll hear an nasty crunching grinding sound.

No problem man. Guess U just haven't experienced the foot issue (missed shift/ false neutral/ bad/worn shift star/gear dogs).

BTW- WHEN you do, do NOT downshift to first. IIRC you wanna get the revs down and go to second. (hey isn't that what you said?)
