I have been reading alot of posts on this site and there is alot of good information on here. Hopefully someone can help me with my problem.

I have a 2004 f4i and when I am in heavy traffic....say at the beach....my bike temperature gets up to 245 or so. When it is at this temp for any extended period of time my entire charging system dies. Also the tank gets so hot that it starts to burn me. I know that this cannot be safe so Im looking for a fix. A few of my buddies have Hondas and they dont have this problem. Im kinda dumfounded by it so any help would be outstanding because Imgoing to Daytona Beach the first of March and would like to enjoy my rideeven in heavy traffic. Thanks in advance.

I would think that the R/R is overheating when your just sitting and screwing the voltages all over your bike up. As for the gastank, check to make sure there are foam pads under the tank, those are the heatshields.

i wrapped my headpipes on my f4i, dramatically cut down on engine bay temps,[sm=bounceybounce.gif] a lot!- sure it takes some time, but a couple hours on a saturday is all it takes and there is a little performance gain- so there is one tip

Could the R/R be failing, and causing the cooling fan not to operate? As stated in an earlier post, voltage issues can really mess with things.

gotta check to see if the fan even comes on when it's supposed to...

the fan comes on just like normal it is just like it cant keep up. the fan stays on almost constant once the temp reaches 240. the heatshield on the bottom of the tank is there. this issue just makes it so damn hard to want to go anywhere like the beach. Ive tried water wetter and that didn't really help any. im going to flush and replenish the cooling system before i leave for daytona im just trying to justify why it is happening. thanks for all the ideas so far. lets keep them coming. i really want to fix this.

have you flushed the system? try running without the thermostat and see if the same thing happens.
is the coolant boiling over?

the coolant is not boiling over. going to flush the system this weekend. i guess my biggest concern is the fact that it runs so hot. if the battery dies it is no big deal to me cause I can still roll start it. I just want to know if there is anything I can do to make it not run so hot.
