Whats going on Folks its been awhile since ive posted and Im about to get some paint work done on my bike and im just wondering if i can get some opinions cause im stuck between a rock and a hard place here...I have been considering getting
1. a all flat black paint job
2. gloss black
3. Candy red or like a fire engine red.

I would like everyones opinions on those options or even throw something else out there that would look sick and help me out. If possible can those of you who have pics of black or red bikes post them so i can see which i like best

i'd say to PM someone who is good w/ photoshop and get YOURSELF a good idea of what those options will look like. go w/ what you think is best and what color you think will looks best. at the end of the day, you're the one riding it......we'd just be glancing at it.

basically you have to see the bike daily and you have to ride it. we might think what you choose is hideous, but you could love it!!!!! at the same time......you could go w/ what we like....but you'd hate it everytime you see it.

so, find someone who is good w/ photoshop and see which one really catches your eye!

i'm doing a flat black paint job right now. still have to do 1 lower and the tank. i'll put up pix in a few days once i'm done.

personally, i like flat colors since i rattlecan, and it's impossible to get a good clear in a can. with flat colors, i don't have to wash the bike...just respray an area that's dirty or F'd up (like around the fuel cap if gas splashes).

thing is with flat black or gloss black is that i think it looks good b/c it matches the frame, but you need the right amount of color to contrast all that black. maybe some tank wings in red or white, or spray the wheels gold. have gold shorty levers, gold chain. etc...

yea see something like that sounds tight except the gold wheels lol

One of my friends had a great idea man. You should paint the bike flat black and then have all the stock emblems in gloss black: the "cbr" on the front, the "honda and wing on the tank", the "600 F4i" on the tail, and the big wing on the side. It would look sick man.

having a flat black or gloss black bike is all good until someone cuts your has off and you have to dump the bike all because they couldnt see you with that color. Especially at night. I live in Minneapolis and there is no way I would ever have my bike fully black because i would be dead within days.

don't do gloss black with red accents.....it sucks...it's horrible....just looks like crap.....

besides...i am doing that and it's almost done short of the paint job...... ;)

just a sidenote, as i have said before...whatever you do...the paint will always be noticeable, but the little accents...ahhh...now those make it truly standout and make it unique!

i actually liked my psuedo championship white matte paint job, but it was too hard to keep clean.

just painted my tank last night, and need to do the front fender now. i think it'll look pretty good. also trying to black out pretty much everything on the bike except for the chain, wheels, and levers.

i'll tell you what...blacking everything out...not as easy as it sounds...especially if you are going for bolts and things like that...i have handpainted at least 20 different items to black out my bike...

i will post of pic of my back wheel when i get a chance....i just had it gloss black powdercoated...i painted the sprocket carrier...bolts, etc...got a black vortex sprocket and got red annodized sprockets nuts....after everything....including painting the exposed threads of the bolt exposed past the sprocket nuts...my rear tire is completely blacked out.....with red accents...NO metal showing at all except the actual brake rotor...hell i even painted the inner on the rear rotor.....it took time...but holy crap does it look sweet!!

charlos
02-05-2008, 11:32 AM
goddamn...ttiwop!

i won't black out the rotors or the forks or whatever, but i guess i could, if i had the dedication--only problem with that is, if i put that much work into it, i know i'll lowside it the first day it's out.

Not putting **** on you or telling you how to ride or trying to start a flame war but..... When you are riding you must assume that no one sees you and you must position yourself accordingly. Blue, pink, red, yellow or whatever the color, ride defensively. We might not have as many cages on the streets as Minneapolis but the same principal applies. Yeh sure you might have been riding 10 years or morebut..... Well enough said.;)

if they aren't looking, it doesn't matter if your bike is dayglo orange, you're still gonna get hit.

also, at night, your headlights are going to do more for visibility than anything.

i see what you're saying, but i was hit in broad daylight a few months back, doing 25 mph down my street, by a lady who swore i dropped from the sky to hit her windshield.

hi-beams, bright red helmet--none of that registered.

it's a Vortex Cat5 hardcoated 520 pitch sprocket...you can pretty much find them anywhere...they have them in a ton of colors too (well not a ton, red, blue, black, etc..)...they are REALLY nice...quality is awesome....

the sprocket nuts are from Pro-bolts...they anno red with steel threaded inserts so you can torque them to factory...

the carrier i painted and i also painted the inner on the rotor...the rotor inner right now isn't perfect, but i went about a mm or so in on the braking surface...a couple good brakes and the rear pad will even it out to a perfect circle....

the pictures doesn't do it justice because it still has my fingerprints all over from working on it...when it's cleaned up and put on the bike, i have a feeling it will look awesome....just so you can complete the picture in your mind...i have a red chain going on with it and my rear caliper is red with a red SS line from it...the rest of the rear is completely blacked out....pegs powdered, rearsets powdered, etc....

I agree with the fact that you must ride defensively at all times. All I am saying that it definately helps to make the bike more noticeable as well. When you look at most stock colors(not all) they have bright, stand out colors and patterns. Not just because they think they look good but because they are safer. Same reasons account for helmet colors and patterns. I think every rider should ride like the cars around them have no idea they are there but there are also measure to take to help make you seen. I honestly think that all black bike looks sweet as hell I just dont think it is safe for riding in traffic. At night especially.

F4itanner I concur. I wasn't trying to be a smartass or anything;)but I see where you're shooting from. Infact I must admit that it wasn't until I actually started riding that I really started looking out for bikes on the road religiously. I mean I always tried to be a safe driver but looking out for bikes wasn't something that was on my conscience. It is now of course and even when I drive the missus's cage (not often) Iam motorcycle aware & drive defensively as if I were on the bike. I think the motorcycle training has made me a better driver. You can't trust anyone! Anyways enough on that. ffingers I really like that sprocket. Too bad I just swapped mine out but I am definately going for a Vortex when I wear this sucker out.Iunderstand the nuts are ano red butdo those sprockets comeanodised or just painted?

ffingers
02-06-2008, 05:13 PM
the sprocket is PTFE hardcoated....so not painted or annodized...much much much tougher...it's essentially like the color is baked into the sprocket...it's a matte finish....i don't know much about the hardcoating, but it also is supposed to make the aluminum sprocket last much longer....close to the life of a steel sprocket...

yea thats what i realized too. ive always been a good drive (ive never been in a wreck or even pulled over) and ive had my Ls for 5 years now, but once i started seriously considering geting a bike, and i read posts on here about ppl not paying attention and stuff... i started lookin more specifically for bikes also. so i know that other ppl who have never had, or never will, get a bike, also dont look for us. like my step dad always tells me "Ride like everyones tryin to kill ya" lol

mine is flat black (pics on page one) and ive recently threw on some ghosted marblized flames.im actually decently satisfied with the result. my bikes fairings are pos anyway, so it changes regularly. but for now the ghost flames are ok.

like someone else said, if you go flat, you need something to break up the black.
