Default Who’s claimed Chapter 7 Bankruptcy…On your own?

Okay, I know that people claim Chapter 7 Bankruptcy everyday, but I assume that most people pay the $1000+ to have an attorney do all the paperwork. Well my girlfriend is going to be claiming next week and we have already spoken with an attorney. He wants $1700 to do everything and we called around to find that the lowest we could find was $1300. This is including the $299 federal filing fee. That’s great; she’s broke and doesn’t have a lot of info that needs to be recorded in the first place…so why not do it on her own?

I have been researching relentlessly the last few nights and have collected all the forms necessary and have been getting a good understanding of what needs to be done and how.

So has anyone else attempted to tackle such a chore of claiming ones Bankruptcy on their own?

Kinda what I thought, not worth paying someone that much if you can do it yourself

Some friends of ours in Ga last year filed after the law change, and only paid 800 for the whole process might take a little bit of a beating. But why don't you call Dave Ramsey, the self-appointed expert and ask him, either on the air are off the air.
And before anybody starts. I don't know anyone who can live on beans and rice and rice and beans every damn day. Your personal morale has to play some factor in life to keep you motivated to work and be prosperous.

First off, great to see ya chatting in the forum again!

Anyway, not sure how to take your comment...my GF "alone" is the one that if filling and it's due to a debt from an insurance claim aganst her that she cannot afford...unemployed the last 6-months.

She is the mother to my daughter that was born in November of last year, and I am more than happy to support the both of them so that she can stay at home and be a "homemaker"

Just wanted to clarify so that no one thinks of her as a deadbeat that isn't doing anything with her life.

I see that there is an online credit counseling course offered on Ramsy's site. My GF is already set into an appointment for one so that's not gonna help. This all seems to be much like taxes...looks overwhelming to most but is just simple paperwork when you get into it.
