View Full Version : Parting out 1991 CBR1000F

I wrecked my bike about a year ago and have finally decided to part it out rather than piece it back together. I have pretty much everything on it, other than the headlight, upper fairing hold. The left fairing, when you are sitting on the bike, has a piece broken off of the top corner towards the front. The right side fairing and most of the other plastics are in good shape. I was able to find another front cowl that will be for sale as well. The bike was the red/black color scheme, but the cowl is from a white/blue bike.

Everything is avaliable, let me know what you would like to purchase and we can do payment through paypal or money orders.

I will get pics up hopefully tonight.

I could use some fairing pieces, those that fit over the fuse box and radiator cap. I'd like to see a picture of the left side (as you sit on the bike) fairing, too.

1stcbr,

Give me a zip code and I'll figure out shipping costs and then give you an actual cost.

Daniel_ARG,

I would like to sell the motor whole so that it's not missing pieces if somebody wants to buy the whole thing like bigjim. Though if he just messed up the internals on his he might have the one off of his blown motor to sell you.

bigjim44256,

Give me a zip code so I can see about shipping. Not sure it it'll be worth it but we can give it a shot.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you guys.

1stcbr,

Shipping is going to be pretty cheap. I found that these go for about $100 each new. How about we do $100 including shipping? Let me know what you think.

bigjim44256,

I haven't had a chance to pull the engine to get an actual weight to figure out shipping. I am really not sure what to ask as far as a price as I can't find one anywhere to price compare with. I was thinking somewhere around $600 plus shipping, but wasn't sure if that was fair or not.

bigjim44256
02-06-2008, 04:59 PM
Drew, to be perfectly honest i was thinking of offering 6 if runs good. i see your machine has quite a few miles on her, mine only had 31,000 when i cooked it. but i know mine had many rough miles.as for the shipping, i have a friend that drives for panther 2 and i was going to ask him if he would pick it up for me. the only thing is we would need to wait till he was in the area. if this is something that is feasible let me know. what i do know is that thing should weigh about 110-125 lbs. something like that. it might need to go truck lines or moving company, somethinglike that.been awhile since i picked mine up off the floor. let me know what your comfortable with and we'll go from there.

Jim

Jim,

It runs great. I was averaging 47-50 mpg if I shifted before 6k. The only thing that I was going to do as maintanence was do a valve job and sync the carbs. That doesn't even need to be done, it runs great and will red line with the best of them. It can stay in my garage till he's in the area, no big deal. I only rode it hard a couple times right after I bought it. Then I found out that it still had it's balls and I never really rode it hard again. The guy that I bought it from bought it when it only had 2k miles on it. He had it for about 15 years and kept it in great shape. I put about 10k on it in the year that I rode it, almost all highway.

Well... I asked my friend about picking up the engine for me. He says he doesnt go to colorado very often and it would probable be wisest to have it shipped. Im going to look into this more at work to see what it will cost. I would probably have fedex freight come to your house and pick it up. i'll do a little research and get back to ya. also, doyou have any idea if your bike is a california model or not? it makes no differance im just curious.

02-14-2008, 10:26 PM
Drew, everything with fedex is ok at my end. You havent yet said no so i assume(which i know is the wrong thing to do)your ok with that. whenever you get the engine removed and are ready to ship i will need to know an accurate weight. 149lbs is the change point. so if you could please give me an idea of what were lookin at with weight. a bathroom scale is close enough for this kind of government work. i would weigh what i have but i dont know what all your goingto ship with your engine, plus mine is in lots of pieces somewhere in that thing i call a garage. so i guess just keep me posted on these items as best as you can and we'll have a deal here. also what do you have in mind for payment options? im set up with paypal, check in the mail, whatever, just let me know. thanx Jim

cdrewferd
02-16-2008, 06:52 PM
I'm working on pulling some parts for another member right now. I would ship probably just the engine and carbs, but I can include anything else related to the engine that you need. I will drain all the fluids, asI'm sureFedEx doesn't want tohave to deal with any of that. I have another member that is buying the clutch, so I can leave the trans together and attatched, or I can pull it. I'll try to get it out tomorrow and give you an accurate weight. I'm also setup with Paypal so that would be the best way to go as far as exchanging money.

bigjim44256
02-17-2008, 06:42 PM
Drew, i hope you havent pulled the engine apart yet but i woild much rather not having to swap clutches from my engine to that engine. if its ok sell him my clutch and leave that one in. I'll pull it and ship wherever. please dont pull anything apart thats not necessary. lets work together here and use parts from my scrap engine, please. Jim

cdrewferd
02-18-2008, 09:38 AM
Sorry, I already pulled the clutch. I also broke the inner clutch when trying to undo that big nut on the inside. I'm just shipping him the packs and everything else from the packs out. It's actually not that hard to swap, I would say it will only take you about 30 minutes to swap the parts.

I got the engine pulled last night. With the air box, carbs, trans and engine it's sitting right at 200 pounds.

Let me know how you would like to proceed. As far as FedEx coming out to my house that's fine, but I don't have anything to pack this big thing in. Would probably need to put it in a crate.

cdrewferd
02-20-2008, 09:39 AM
Jim,

Just wondering what's going on. Are you still interested in the engine? I would like to get this out of my garage as soon as I can.

bigjim44256
02-20-2008, 04:48 PM
O.K. now we have a problem. I was interested in a complete running engine, not an incompletebroken one. my engine is mostly torn down ready for a rebuild. if i wanted to work on an engine i would have rebuilt mine.shame shame. i might still be interested in your parts engine though. what do you have in mind?

cdrewferd
02-21-2008, 09:50 AM
What do you mean an incomplete broken engine??? This engine is still complete and runs great. The clutch doesn't affect the running of the engine. What do you consider a complete engine? Do you consider the trans part of the engine? I'm now confused as to what you were expecting when you just asked about purchasing the engine.

cdrewferd
02-23-2008, 07:28 PM
Jim,

How about $500 for the motor as it sits? The only thing that you would have to swap is the clutch and I don't think that would take more than 30 minutes. Let me know if you are still interested. I would really like to get this engine to you so that you can get your bike going again.

bigjim44256
02-24-2008, 04:35 AM
Drew, i must appologize. I did not realize that you would assume the transmission was not part of the complete engine. yes you could be correct in saying the engine still runs fine but, how am i to know that the case does not need split to accomplish this repair. my case needs split and though i am capable of performing this task i do not want to split the case. meaning i would repair mine before byeing your's, it would cost me less. further more, you broke something inside your transmission, telling me you dont really know what your doing. what makes you think i will believe you when you say it will only take 30 min to repair. if it were so easy, why did something get broken? you see. i am an ASE certified technician and my colledge degree is for automotive applied science. ive wrenched in several ford dealerships and a few non specific repair shops. you can not pull the wool over my eyes. like i said, i might be interested in your parts engine/trans but thats about it. i figure at this point it is nothing more than a rebuildablecore and not worth much more than 150.00 dollars(considering aluminum scrap value is pretty high). i hope the clutch assemble that you did pull was worth it.

cdrewferd
02-24-2008, 10:29 AM
Wow, you really are something Jim. You are saying that you are an ASE certified tech, which litterally means nothing to me, but you think that because I made a small mistake while pulling the clutch, and broke the CLUTCH CENTER that the case needs to be split!!! Man, I don't ever want you to work on my car as it seems like you don't even know how to fix a simple clutch problem on a bike that would litterally take about 30 minutes if you knew what you were doing. Sorry I tried to give you the benifit of the doubt. If you think it's only worth $150, then go fly a kite. I don't normally react like this but it sounds like you just don't want it and are trying to find a way out. Everything on the engine is fine, nothing was damaged, only the CLUTCH CENTER which is something that you pull when you remove the clutch anyway.

It's amazing how many people say that they are an ASE certified tech but don't know crap about working on anything because it hasn't been showed to them. I'll keep my engine thank you. When I put it on Ebay I'll let you know and you can bid with everybody else, but be sure that the starting price will be higher then the $150 that you seem to think the engine is worth.

gwizrc (http://www.cbrforum.com/showProfile.asp?memid=25910)- Shipping should be pretty cheap so what do you think about say $35 including shipping?

Kikepiz (http://www.cbrforum.com/showProfile.asp?memid=10801)- Shipping is going to be a little more since the back rim weighs so much. What do you think about $150 including shipping?

tackforce (http://www.cbrforum.com/showProfile.asp?memid=28668)- For the gas tank we could probably do $75plus shipping, the tank is in perfect shape. For the guage cluster we would need to wait and see if Kikepiz wants it or not.

Let me know what you guys think. Hope we can work something out as I want my garage back.

I'd be interested in a keyed helmet holder assembly (Honda PN: 77225-MS2-003) as mine "rounded off".

Would be interested in what you would want for this assembly plus the key for it + shipping to zip 22968.

I'm also looking for two of the clips and bolts that hold the left and right top plastic pieces over the fuse access and radiator access... just the clips and bolts only.

Sorry guys, I've been really busy and haven't had time to check this thread. If you guys still need stuff let me know. I really want to get this out of my garage so make an offer or what you need.

Do you still have the siliencers/mufflers for sale? if so i need some for a 94 1000f that i just got a couple days ago. Someone cut the pipes in half ?? Also the speed screen is gone and the front headlight assembly is gone for starters. I am sure there are a few other things too but for now the pipes i need badly. My area code is 45697 for shipping cost info. Thanks,Rob

As there are 10 pages :-) and I didn't read all of them, just wondering if you have the rear rotor and is it straight and over 4mm? If yes, how much?

Thanks,
Rookiekc

Good evening,

Would hate to compromise a fairing, but if available, would love to purchase the small cover on the left faring that covers the frame slider. Also game for the clutch lever if it is not too much trouble to remove. Thanks for your time. Jeff.

Yes I have the full exhaust still. Shipping would probably be about $50 as they are really heavy. What do you think about say $50 plus shipping?

I have the rotor, it's straight, but I'm not sure on thickness and I don't have a way to measure.

Would you sell the frame with the title?

Absolutely, let me know what kind of price you were thinking and we'll try to work something out.

I can do the clutch lever, but not sure on the fairing part. I'll look tonight and let you know.
