I think everyone knows about the hair dryer/heat gun trick. Iso Alcohol and WD-40 as well.

(This is starting to sound strange...but got some good advice today)

But if you have decals that have left behind a residue that seemingly will not ome off.

Get some WD-40...and spray on the affected area...let soak. Repeat.

Then take a car pinstripe removal tool.

Or this, which takes longer but is cheap.

or you could just go to your local autobody supply store and buy adhesive remover

Yeah, and for those stubborn pieces of goo, like the kind lurking under decals 7-10 years old, Goo Gone, Adhesive removers of any kind,
take forever and a day top get the crap off of there.

Trust me, I know, I've tried both and for really sticky, just won't come off crap, my post is correct, your's is wrong, so live and learn.

Doesn't goof off discolor your paint also?

I know when I used it a while back for latex paint it worked great to remove the latex paint overspray. I believe it discolors regularautomotive paints and the like but it may just do that for certain types of automotive paints.

Unless they reformulated it in recent years I would read the back of the can and make sure it is safe for your paint type and for abs plastics before I trusted it on your body work.
