It seems to me that the custom map is running a tad rich. I have a decent amount of carbon built up on the inside of the exhaust lip. Is this normal? It has been like this since I had the custom map done, but I am wondering if it might be a tad too rich.

The bike seems to run fine after about 5500 or so miles.

When I wipe my finger inside the end of the exhaust, it comes out jet black... Not a tiny film, but a pretty decent amount of carbon.

If that sounds too rich, what is the best way to lean it out? I believe that where the performance shop guys really richened it up was at the low end, because there was a lean spot there. Is this something that I can easily adjust with the laptop or 3 buttons on the PCIII box, or do they have to do it?

I can email someone the custom map and perhaps they can take a look at it and make some recommendations...

There will always be some carbon in the exhaust no matter how perfect your air/fuel mixture is. Check your plugs and that will give you some what of an idea how your mixture is.

Sounds to me it is running rich. I have a PC3 too and I dont get that much carbon. Just a little on my finger. You can lean it out yourself but I dont know much about it. If you were planning on putting a aftermarket filter on, you can just do that and it will lean everything out a tad.

So maybe swapping the K&N filter out for a BMC will lean it a tad?

I am going to pull a plug tomorrow. I think that if it was running that rich that the plugs would have to be fouled after 600 miles and it would be running weird by now...

Yea putting on a k&n might be the easiest fix. If the bike is just a little rich you will not have problems with fouling plug. If it was a two stroke maybe but a four stroke is normal pretty good for plugs. If is was really rich then maybe you would have trouble with plugs after 500 miles. That is just my opinion. Slap a k&n filter on that bad boy and see how she runs.;)
