I am having alot of trouble getting the front sag and suspension on my '01 F4i set. This bike only has about 1500 miles on it, and is my 2nd F4i. the suspension is extremely soft, much, much softer than my old '01 F4i. basically to get the sag to even 35mm, I had to crank the preload down like 12turns, the preload adjuster is all the down, no lines showing. And the rebound isnt quite right either, I have to crank it in about a turn just to keep it from "topping out" or bouncing at the top of the stroke. My other F4i was just adjusted a hair off of stock and was perfect, which leads me to believe that something isnt right.
I have read that the F4i has pretty weak springs, but that weak? Could sitting there for 5yrs with almost no ride time cause the springs to sag, or develop a memory of sorts? I have taken the forks apart, cleaned all the valves and replaced the fork oil, andit is slightly better, but not much.
Should I replace the springs? if so, what are the recommendations? Should I find a set of stockers and put them in, or should I spend a little more and get a new set of springs? and if I put different springs in, do I really need to have the valving done? I checked Race Tech and Ohlins, but I must not be looking in the right places, because they didnt have springs for anF4i listed. also, I weigh 180lbs with no gear, and mainly ride the twisties on the weekend, no commuting really. So a new set of springs is the direction Im leaning.
any ideas?[/align]
