View Full Version : sluggish, loss of power, noisy @ 5000 rpm on my F4i?

I've got an 03 F4i with 6,500 miles on it, I bought it with 3500 miles on it last August. I've been decent with lubing the chain, changed the oil at 4,500 miles with a good synthetic diesel oil (extra particulate absorpbtion and no friction modifiers), but lately it's been just sluggish, especially at around 5000 rpm or so. I take it to work everyday, 13 miles each way, and I'm usually cruising at around that RPM on the highway, I don't gun it much at all. Wondering what I can do to give it that new bike feeling I had 3,000 miles ago?

I tightend the chain today and bled the brakes for the first time, I can clean the chain and re lube it, but I'm wondering if there is a cam tensioner issue or maybe I need another oil change? I was expecting to get about 3000 miles out of an oil change...

I'm just at a loss because it doesn't seem to have that pep it used to anymore... Do I need to take it to get the valve clearances adjusted or what? I don't see anything in the CBR manual that states it needing major work until around 8,000...

Any tips appreciated. I do my own work when it comes to simple things like fluids and chains...

You dont need any "regular maintenance work" done at that mileage. Hell, its practically new with 6k on it. Not sure, hopefully someone will be of help..
