How many of you would not wear a helmet if there was no helmet law in your state?

In Nebraska, the helmet law is up for appeal this year. Although there are stipulations, must be 21 with motorcycle license for over a year or you will have to wear one. Passengers under 21 must wear one. Or you have to take a safety class. Plus insurance rates go up also.

I personally will still wear mine.

Here in Florida, you don't have to wear one, but I wouldn't get on my bike without one. Then again, I have only ridden 2 miles ever. I need more time off my tugboat.

No law in Florida, I wear mine every single time I am on public roads. Even without a crash, stuff like bugs, rocks...hurt at 70mph.

Full face helmet, every time, no question.

I respect that some people like the choice, but my choice won't change even if the law does.

I must admit I don't always wear my lid. I realize it is a stupid risk. I also have a personal view that they are only for open casket funerals. I know of one occasion in particular where the helmet killed the rider ( the wieght and angle snapped his neck when he went down , otherwise he would have walked away). Now before everyone starts flamin me out I live in Indiana where as long as I've been alive there has been no law. I never let my kids ride with me without one on. I guess there is a strange irony there. I have been wearing it more lately. Especially at night when I do most of my riding with a group. I guess the older I get the more I wear it. More and more of the guys are wearin em around here. Alot of the guys have a Red Bull law. If you get caught stuntin or doin somethin stupid without it you owe a case of Red Bull the next time we're all out. I guess it's insentive the wear it.

I always wear mine, but I dont't think having a law to mandate it is right. I have a mother, and I don't need the state being mother #2.

It's still (mostly) a free country, and if you want to be an idiot, it should be your choice. Likewise insurance companies should bee free to include in their policies that they will not pay for medical injuries if a helmet (at least) isn't worn. THAT would solve the problem better than a traffic ticket, IMO.

I totally agree. In IL there is no helmet law but I still wear mine every time. We are all big boys and girls and we can make our own decisions regarding wearing helmets and seat belts. Its not the place of the state government to tell us what to do, especially when the only person's saftey that we are endangering is our own.

I wish the feds would step in and get rid of all helmet mandates..

That way, demand would go down, and I would be able to pick up a damn nice helmet pretty cheap :)

+1 for never getting on my bike without a lid.

When i first learned how to ride in chicago i didnt wear a helmet. but once i got back home in CT i never leave my house with out my helmet. I have seen enough specials on tv and heard enough stories not to leave home with out my helmet.

They just changed it here in michigan, used to be manditory now you have to have I think 2 years experience then you dont have to wear one. I think it is stupid, I always wear my helmet. I think more of the cruiser guys would go without a lid, I dont know maybe they think they look cooler with their brains splattered across the road.

I can't even fathom the idea of not wearing a helmet.
When I got hit by a car that pulled out my helmet saved me some serious hurt. My head hit the pavement but it felt like a nice comfy pillow :)

It's a different mentality I guess about the nanny state concept. I totally support helmet laws as I am sure they save lives and serious injury. It's not like a police state, you just run the possibility of getting a ticket, like speeding.

I wish every state had helmet laws. I've seen accidents with and without helmets. The fatal accidents without helmets, some could have been prevented with helmets.

sometime when i would stunt my quad i wouldnt wear my helmet (85% of the time i WORE it). but i had one good wreck on it that could have been alot worse if i wasnt wearing it at the time (i'll post a pic). and here in MD there IS a helmet law, and even if there wasnt there is no way in HELL i'd throw a leg over my bike w/o one on. like one guys said earlier.......i've seen TOO many specials on tv, too many videos on the net, and seen too many pics. helmet law or no helmet law.......i'd ALWAYS wear it!

here's what the rear bar of my quad did while doing a Seat Stander-jump-to sitdown wheelie. glad i had the helmet on that day.

No helmet law here in AZ. i always put mine on even if i'm pulling it out the garage. don't wanna put my foot down and slip on gravel and hit my head. i can't imagine riding down the freeway here like these harley riders do with no helmet because rocks get kicked up on the freeway alot and a rock to the face at 65 mph. no thanks. helmet always.

I'll move my bike in a parking lot without a helmet and even that makes me nervous. Helmets are my favorite piece of equipment. I want a new one! Gary Busey is the greatest actor ever

I dunno....

Something about a june bug hitting me in the cheek at 65 mph doesn't sound like a good time.
Something about my eyes watering so bad above 65 that I can't see reminds me of how the sheild helps.
Something about the stability and aerodynamics my helmet helps when I ride.

Of the few accidents I've had, without one, I'd experienced serious head injuries.

Besides....my shoei picotte (jester) replica is a badass helmet.
