hi guys,
i have an 04 f4i. my main problem is when i start the bikeup, it idles somewhat rough. if i immediately give it aquicktwist on the throttle it will die. if i wait say about 30 seconds, i twist it, it will cough/stutter then race up however hard i bring it up to the powerband, then i am good to go. and it rides like a charm. my opinion maybe its too cold.i understand you should let the bike warm up, but for it to die if you give a throttle twist at startup i dont understand that one.
my FI light blinks when i turn it on so there lies the problem. i got the manual. looked it up.
i have been getting 8 blinks on my FI lights. looked in the manual and this list this as poor engine response when opening the throttle quickly. (theres no poor response after i let the bike warm up. after about 5 minutes of riding it rides just fine with no poor engine response when opening it up)
7 blinks lists it as hard start at low temp. (which best suits my case)
i started it up today and i swear it looks like 8 blinks but ULTIMATELY I BELIEVE THERE IS A LOOSE SENSOR MAYBE?
7 blinks says check the ECT sensor.
8 blinks say check the TP sensor.
now this manual i have on my computer has not the greatest quality pictures. so here is where i need you guys who are familiar with disassembling the tank and to get to the sensor WHICH may have loose or poor contact which may be causing this problem.
to remove the tank. i take the seat off. remove the 8mm bolts and the 12mm bolts. now its ready to be taken off. heres where i am nervous because i have never removed it. can anyone describe it to the best of their ability.

then i am assuming i have to play with some hoses before i remove.

this isnt my bike, just some better shots of a tank removal and the hoses. can you describe these lines.
ok i get it off and now heres what i am suppose to be looking at and the area of the sensor i am to look at.

from here is the sensor easy to locate? is it just a connector that i have to fiddle with?
i hope these pictures maybe give you a better idea in your mind of what i have to deal with.
for those who actually know what im trying to deal with here, i appreciate any responses you can give me. i am trying to figure this out on my own because i have been quoted from a local dealership (which are notoriously known for ripping people off) that it will cost ALOT for them JUST TO LOOK AT IT even though my gut feeling tells me they are going to rip off the tank and see a sensor may be loose and then charge me out the ass. plus i just want to get more knowledgeable on the subject of servicing my bike without a highway robbery dealer killing my wallet with something i can do with help of a service manual and a great community online to help me.
again, for those who actually know what im trying to deal with here, i appreciate any responses you can give me.
thank you,
pat
