Hey guys and gals,
I'm doing a little wondering and wanted to know if I made custom face lift fairings of current sport bikes would anyone like if I made them available to the good public here at CBRFORUM? So far I have made a CBRF4I / F3 , R1 / F3. Tell me what upper fairing you gay and gals like the best because I am making a another fairing in the near future and I would like to know what you guys and gal like. I was looking at the DUCATI fairings I think it would look sweet on a F3 but that just me. So please give me tons of feedback.

So far I have made the two fairing mentioned above and I am working on finding a factory to reproduce them. I live in korea and I found out in my small twon there are many plastic factories. So I hope I can hook something up.

How much would you charge me for the R1/F3?? Thats what I want

VALKYIE

At this moment I am preparing a fairing to be sent to the factories here in korea because this is where I live. I am still in the process of talking with the factories for the best price and all that. But feed back from the forums is not all that but I will keep pushing on and see what the factories are going to run me so I will see what I can charge for each upper. I am trying to keep the price down under two hundred bucks. So when I am ready to start selling I will post them on ebay and spread the word.

I am from St. Louis, MO but I am here in korea working for the government. I am a engineer and I work for a defense contractor company. I work on my bike in my spare time. Here in korea labor is cheap and live in the south of the country around my factories that in in my small town of waegwon, south korea.

Well I just bought a MAC computer from my friend and I am having problems with posting pictures to this site. But if you would email me and I will email pictures of my mods and you can post them for me. There are two treads that I started when I had my old sony vio. CUSTOM HOME MADE FAIRING AND THE UPDATED pictures. Just look in 600 MODS and you cant miss it. My bike picture are out there on other forums such as bikepics CBR 600 F3 96 and Sportbikeriders.net or com. Its out there and when I get this next fairing finished I will take it to the factories and hopefully not get ripped a new one by someone trying to over charge me.

I hope these pictures are good enough for you. The fairing that is on my bike is a prototype. It came out rough and not as appearing as I wish it could be but it was my first R1/F3. The fairing that I am working on now will be a whole lot better. The current moded fairing on my F3 looks great and I thank all for the
compliments but there is always room for improvement.

hey Valkyie, are you interested in making other fiberglasss parts such as a rear seat cowl for a 04-06 f4i. Their is a need for them. The targa one is huge. I will attach a pic. of a nice looking one that would sell. This is made by a person on this forum but I don't rember who.

VALKYIE

Making a seat cowl is easy. But the thing is I am here in korea there are not alot of sportbikes around. Its very expensive for the average korean to own a sportbike. So I would need a F4I here to base the cowl off of so that I get it right. I work on a army base
so far I have seen only a handfull of sportbikes not including the ones my co-workers ride. If I get this little fairing venture going
then I plan to make a new tail fairing for the F3 so who knows. Sorry I could'nt help out.

Thanks for the reply. All my fairings that were sitting in my backyard have been stolen. Over five hundred dollars in F3 and R1 fairings just gone. I cant understand it because nothing like this has every happen. My neighbors over here in korea usaully dont mess with me or my stuff but someone took them. There are alot of korean people that walk around looking for materials to recycle and I am sure someone saw them and helped themselves to the fairings thinking there were scrap plastic. So my little projects over here are on hold until I get some replacement fairings. But I am not going to let this stop me from getting a custom upper to the factories for a qoute for reproduction. Wish me luck and hope knowone steals the next upper and plastics.

I was going to convert my bike to the 2001-2003 upper and tail but I like the 600rr or the 1000rr way better. I have a 2000 Cbr F4, do you think you could do that? And how hard is it to splice in the headlights?

VALKYIE
04-04-2007, 01:48 AM
Well, to be honest your bike is not that old as the F3 so changing it I suppose is you own desire. The 600RR or 1000 fairings look great but molding is alot of work unless you are just going to change plastics. So keep that in mind. Splicing in a headlight is easy just compare the to wire harnesses and go from there basic wiring is all that is needed.

When I come home from my job I look in the spot that the plastic where and I get up set. Its really not the plastics that make me upset its the fact that I have to start all over with my mod. I have another set of plastic at home in St. Louis but they are the targa type made of the plastic/fiberglass mix. I dont know if they will take very well to molding and plastic welding. I guess I will send for them because a new set of plastics is not cheap. Also I will put them back in the house when I am done for the day instead of leaving them in the yard. My girlfriend is korean and she speaks perfect english and she is doing all the communications with the factories. The factories say bring in the fairing to get a exeact price qoute. I want to make sure the fairing that will be reproduce is as perfect as I can get it so I will do a great job on the next fairing.

How much for that tail section...or one slightly different?

I mean underseat brace and all...seat foam etc.?

VALKYIE
04-08-2007, 01:36 AM
Well the tail plastic is from SharkSkinz.com. I paid 225.00 bucks for it. The underseat exhaust is custom, I got the 600RR canister from ebay and had some pipe sized and bent. The solo tail works with the stock CBR 600 F3 seat so you dont have to modify it but in my case I have a flasher unit installed under the tail section so I had to cut a section of my seat away to make room for the flasher unit.

Oh...thought you did all the plastic on that bike...

You could...

BTW...I have an F2...and am either going to stick with what I am doing with a simple seat cowl and some foam shaping,
or go with an aftermarket whole tail section...

The solo tail on my bike also works with the F2. I have seen it on many pictures of the CBR F2. Sharkskinz and Airtech make a solo tail for the CBR F2 and F3. Check it out.

hey valkie did you just moldan r1 upper to the f2/f3 upper? and how did you get them to stay did you use a r1 upper fairing stay and get it to connet to the lower f2/f3 fairing stay? I think I might try this if i can get some more info.

Hey everyone,
I talked with my friend and he said that the factories here want to make a big deal about this fairing and charge around 100,000 just to mass produce it. So I guess this little venture is out of the window. My friend did find a shop that would make each fairing by hand for around 1400.00 which is still to much. I am thinking of making some fairings in my spare time by hand but I would only be able to make some many in a given time frame, only make them for the F3, and you will have to provide your old fairings and a new R1 , CBR F4I or other similar fairing you would like molded. I would charge around 500 for the a custom fairing. Each fairing has to be cut a certain way and then mounted to my F3 to ensure that everything will come out right once it is finished. So I sometime I a playing with. But for now I am very busy with my job and church.

OMG what a ricer. why would youconvert a R1 front on a CBR or even anything else. looks so ugly. "Race not rice".

VALKYIE
12-13-2007, 05:52 AM
I wonder why you would say my fairing is ugly while so many others have told me that its a great modification for the F3. I am a engineer by trade so I am not going to get into streamlining and aerodynamics. I did not make this fairing for those purposes. I made it because I wanted a updated look for my bike. So if you can't look at my skills as a fabicator and say anything good then you should not say anything at all.

okay i dont mean to sound out of place here but i have a 87 VFR where i am converting to a cbr f2 front and rear end, and i personally love the r1 front end. if you can do something with the older vfr to current am sure you would get many more purchasers. you can definitely count me in...as far as theother posters who are hating on your work....like thecomedian katt williams says, YOU NEED HATERS...haters makes you shine...man keep doing your thing...and look intosome other bike combination....this can really be a big improvement fora lot of people.

VALKYIE
02-20-2008, 02:25 AM
Well thank you for the comments. But the only problem is that in order to do custom work on a bike I have to have the bike in front of me. I live in south korea and sportbikes are not plentiful ready here in my area. The prices on the sportbikes stay high and I mean high and there is no such thing as financing for a sportbike here in korea. Its cash up front because insurance companies here do not cover sportbikes if you wreck. So I decided not to buy a used bike straight out because the prices stay high I had my F3 shipped from the states. Plus the bikes are moved from this shop to that shop, sold one day and sold back to a different dealer. Plus when they see a american walking up the price goes up a few thousand dollars. Trust me I know here is a example of the prices in korea ( 2005 Repsol CBR 1000 wit front damage and front fairing missing 13,000 dollars ) So this is the reason why I have my F3 because if I wreck then parts are cheap on ebay and labor is cheap here so I don't take a big hit. So finding a older VFR here in korea is like finding a needle in a hay stack. So as long as I am here in korea I will work with my F3 and if this fairing thing works out I will move to the 900 RR because I see them all the time but VFR have not seen one yet. When I get back to the states and settle down I will make my garage into my little shop and make FULL CUSTOM FAIRING KITS for different bikes.

dude not sure where you are with the mass production idea, last time i read they were charging a large amount to produce...how about selling your idea to airtech-streamlining, they sell aftermarket body parts for various bikes. you should be able to google them amybe contact them and share your idea. i know they have a few custom kits for a few bikes. so maybe yours can be on there. just an idea.

VALKYIE
03-04-2008, 03:00 AM
Companies like airtech tend to stick to what they know. Think about it from a company's prospective. They are about selling a product that will bring in a return. Keep in mind that there are people like myself with older bikes wanting a to change its looks but is there a profit potential in it. Trust me I have looked into this before and there wont be a partnership because its all about making money. Just to get a mass production going for a bike can cost hundreds of thousand of dollars. Plus the airtech will make a kit the will use the stock stay and headlight and the look of the bike would pretty much be the same and you don't want to buy a kit that looks the same. If I was in the united states I would been had these fairings going out to the post office. Here in koera the simplest item I need I have to wait weeks for because here in korea they just don't do alot of custom work. So to sum it up there are two many things that come into going to companies with a idea. Think about it would a company make a honda/yamaha fairing taking the chance to get sued? Like I said there are alot things to consider.

fatso1277
03-05-2008, 01:11 PM
yeah thoseare some good points. didnt look at it that way. well man i wish you luck. when you get home, i know the sells will gothrough the roof. but in the mean time....how about a write up...come on man...come on, you know you want to...i am begging you...LOLOLLO. just kidding man, i will try to figure it out myself considering i have a different bike. but man for real your idea, helped motivate me...keep up the good work.

Well I see your concern. I see the style of the fairings and its unlike the style similar to the F3 or F4I. Your VFR fairings tend to shoot upwards instead of forward. Now it can be done molding a fairing but your choices are limited. My thoughts on this is to swap fairings. I think it would be cheaper to buy a set of fairing from ebay or argo.com. If you have skills with bodywork then go for it if not you will pay around 60.00 bucks a hours so good luck. Now check out the link below I would go with this set of fairings and just mount it on my bike.

well thanks for your suggestions....i guess i better get good and fast cause i aint paying nobody $60 an hour for nothing. But i think i have a good idea on how to possibly merge the 2 fairing with fiberglass. i think with a little re-engineering and imagination, i should be able to get it...thanks alot and again man keep up the good work and good luck with your project...damn what anyone else says, your design is good....keeping it moving...just shake the haters off as you go.

Okay now that I have my bike back from the shop custom fairing installed and painted to match I have determine that this is a acceptable fairing mod and I plan to reproduce it soon. I put the fairing through a few test and observations such as clip-on clearance, headlight angle projections and appearance. Today I rode my bike around the army base I work on and got alot of head turns and compliments from my friends. This is the second F3/R1 fairing I have made the first coming out a bit rough but this new fairing is a beauty. So I hope to have some fairings available for purchase before the end of next month.

What can you do for f4i? Think you can do a 2007/8 type 600rr fairings? I like the minimalist look. Or perhaps even RC212V.

VALKYIE

Jay,
I think the F4I is still a pretty good looking bike. I think the upper looks better than a 600RR so why change. Anyway it can be done with a little imagination. But in order for me to do anything with a bike I must have that model in front of me. I live in south korea and to find a F4I that I can rip apart is hard. Sorry I am not abble to help.

Little about myself first, I work in a machine shop (we make dental implants), we also have the tools/knowledge to fabricate just about anything. Ide like to know what all ide need to do this. (just the front end first), not really worried about the back as of yet. Ide like to convert my F2 to the R1 front end. Im guessing all ide need is the top fairing, headlight, and windscreen. I think i can work my way around the fabbing. Let me know.

PS: Thats a sweet looking bike.

I am still waiting on some other parts of my reproduction process to come together. So I am waiting on myself to get this thing started and I hope to have this figured out at least by the end of august. Once I get the fairings going I will also make a custom solo tail also. So please keep checking the sites for info.
