Default i found a guy who will powder coat for me

I found this guy who powder coated my brakes, carriers and calipers on my car for a whopping $50.

He told me that he would do my frame for $100..

my bike is a 2001 black and silver F4i... what has anyone powdercoated on their bikes regardless of the color and did you go for a color match or something different..

also, post pics if you have them.. i need some ideas

that is a good deal mang!

OT...for your calipers, did you have to take them apart and replace seals after?

yes, i did. I took everything apart and soaked them in degreaser for two days and then scrubbed off what i could of the grime and gave them to him to work on. I will get both of my rims done on my bike and the levers and whatever else that i can think offor about $30 or less. if i go for the frame i will pay about $100 plus some beer or a $ tip.

My downstairs neighbor works in a powdercoat booth all day for a living so he's helping me out with some things.

Only thing is that one of the parts I gave him came back with some serious "orange peel" in the finish. What can I do to prevent that from happening on future parts?

I figured I'd just scrub the **** outta the parts with dish soap water then mineral spirits after that "shrug"

all i can say with that statement is that he must be doing something wrong. i have had my parts for a while now and nothing has happened to them. ask your friend to redo them and see if that works. or ask him why that is happening..maybe you two can brainstorm and come out with an answer

orange peel is just the way things are painted/powdercoated. I know for automotive parts (painted and clearcoated) you can wet sand and buff and you will have 0 orange peel.

you know...some people powercoat at home and then bake in the oven...and the results are good...but you're limited to size of objects.
