Hello all,
I'm curious if anyone has ordered and used a genuine Honda chain when replacing chain/sprockets? If you have indeed replaced your chain with the OEM(Part#06405-MAL-P00...Diado or 06405-MAL-P10...RK Excel) could you tell me if these came out of the package as the correct length(108 links if I am reading the service manual correctly)?

Lastly, if a person were to go aftermarket on a chain for this bike(02 CBR F4i), can someone suggest a brand(and part#) of one that is as good or better than OEM and will work well with the OEM(replacing with new) front & rear sprocket(s)?

Thanks,
-John

D.I.D or RK is the way to go. you will most likely have to take some links out even if you buy the one for your model b/c they dont make a chain for each bike. they generally just make several different lengths that will accomodate many bikes. Cycle Gear can look up the part #for your bike and they always have plenty of chains in stock. i reccomend buying a rivet master link as well. much safer than the c or z clips most chains come with. they are only like $4.

Thanks for the information jmhIV. One other quick question....do you know if D.I.D. and Diado are the same brand/company?

Thanks all for the information. Tahoe SC, I was just looking at the links you included and they also have a steel sprocket conversion kit and was wondering your thoughts on this(steel vs. aluminum)... Is this reccomended or something a person should avoid? Anyone else have input on this(steel vs. aluminum)?

Thanks!

steel is stronger and will last longer...aluminum is lighter but won't last as long...but in reality...it's all how you ride and how well you take care of it. racers and trackers use aluminum to save weight.

if you decide to regear, sometimes only aluminum sprockets are available...steel up front will always be available but not always for rear.

Manual recommends DID or EK. I have DID aftermarket, stock size.
