I have a spare 1995 CBR600F3 engine that's been sitting in a garage for years.

Are there any obvious problems I may encounter from the engine just stanging for that long?

I need to run it up to make sure it works. What are the minimum requirements for doing this? I apreciate the need to clean the carbs etc. I have most of the wiring loom and components but no clocks or switchgear (that end of the loom was just cut clean off).


I do have a CD version of the workshop manual so I can figure some of the wiring out.

Any help much apreciated.

How was the engine prepped for storage? If gas was drained and oil put in spark plug holes and cycled a couple of turns and coolant was drained then you're prolly good to go. In the old days the rings weren't good enough to sit up for years without dying, newer stuff is generally not a problem. A leak down test will confirm valves and rings are in good order.

That's exactly how it was prepped so that's good news.

When I said I want to run it up, I meant out of a bike on a workbench (reading my post I realise that wasn't clear). it's to be used in a project and I want to make sure the engine actually works before I build the bike. I figure maybe a track bike setup on a bench might be the way forward. I just want to fire it up briefly to check it works.

Sounds good-to-go. Strap her down good and be patient for it to kick over. White smoke for a minute or so and if ya rev it you might see some white smoke. What ya gonna put it in? There's some guys putting bike motors in go-karts. That's gotta be wicked.
