Ran out of Gas Last night Reserve tank Q?
Ok, so I was driving with the gas light on for awhile about 30 miles, so I switched the fuel petcock to the reserve tank. I thought I'd have enough to get home but it died two miles after switching to reserve. When you fill up with gas are you filling the reserve tank as well as the main? It seemed like the reserve was empty or like I never switched to reserve. Do you think theres something wrong with the fuel petcock? or an empty reserve?
Your problem was driving for 30 miles after the light came on -- apparantly your light means bidness[8D]. Sounds like the reserve was already on though. The reserve tank is filled by filling the main tank.
haha, i agree driving 30 miles with the light on is bad. Reserve was definatley switched on when it died. I switched it down to "ON" after I had driven 30 miles with the switch UP.
There is no tank. Reserve on bikes with it is simply a lower level drain than the "main" tank. Picture 2 straws in a glass. One that reaches to the bottom (reserve) and one that reaches to within 0.5" (main). With the main straw you can't empty the glass... but with the reserve straw you can.
On my F4 there is no reserve, nor is there a petcock. There is a fuel cut off, but that is under the tank AND NOT something you can reach when riding. On my F4 I have the orange light. I have got 30km from my bike, with the light on. I could probably get close to 50km. If you want to see how far you can get, ride until it stops.
Just watch the odometer. When it gets near the magic number, stop for gas... when I hit 250km on the tank I know that I'm damn near light... and when I hit 280 I know it's damn near empty. 300km is possible when you're doing all highway with low throttle input in a tuck. Your bike will be different.

+1 on what woot said. I've also asked around and been told there is no reserve on the F4's, just a fuel cut off. I've been told both up and down are ON and forward is OFF. No reserve on these...
