View Full Version : Advice 04 1000RR CBR
tyrone 10-10-2006, 09:13 PM I have been looking to buy a honda cbr 1000rr without much sucess.. I live in southern california...
I found an 04 one, two owners, i would be the third that has about 9500 miles... The asking price is about $7500.. its pretty much stock with a slip on exhaust.... The owner said it fell once on the right side.... and the ferring has a crack in it but not big..
What do you guys think??
menefreghista 10-11-2006, 06:50 AM Hondas are known to hold their value fairly well
look up the trade in/retail values on kbb.com and nadaguides.com
then make your offer based on the overall condition of the bike
a slip-on is no big deal and goes for anything upwards of $200
TAPnTX 10-11-2006, 10:25 AM In TX that bike would be worth about $6000
Here is the rule of thumb I use for pricing:
Take the KBB Prices (Trade-in and the retail) and come up with an average then deduct the price of the new Plastic to replace the broken one.
Just remember you will be the 3rd owner!!!!
I bet if you keep looking you can find a clean 04-05 no damage one owner for $7,000
I only paid $8900 for my new 06 in Dallas,TX where no one ever gets a very good deal.
When I was looking for a CBR I found several 04-05 one owner under 4000 mile bikes for around 7K.
The Hunt is part of the fun of buying a new bike!!!

DrDRFT 10-11-2006, 10:58 AM If you can get an 05' or even 06'! save extra bit and get the 05' even 06' it will be better for U as the 04' has a few little problems as it was the first!
dizzie56 10-11-2006, 11:07 AM dont get it. my used 05 at the dealer wit 1400 miles on it cost me 9800 +tag n title n it wasnt ever layed down. save up some money or get some financed n buy a newer one. either that or tell him to drop his price.
FATHEADS1KRR 10-11-2006, 11:35 AM Do sound a lil high. Bought my 06 from the first owner w/1500 miles, not a scratch/scuff- 9k.
tyrone 10-11-2006, 04:16 PM thanks for the advice.. i went to look at the bike.. it looked pretty nice, the damage on the right side was very minimal.. like 2 inch crack.....
However, i think i will wait and try to find a better deal.....
tyrone 10-21-2006, 02:48 AM ok gonna go check out another 04 tomorrow... has 2k miles on it.. asking around $7.2k obo.. hopefully i'll have a 1000RR soon :) i'll let u know how it goes! :)
BTW any big differences between say 04 and 05/06 models
DrDRFT 10-21-2006, 04:40 AM 04' and 05' same just different colours....06' totally different 04'-05', I had the 05' before the 06' and it is a big difference and the 07' is meant to be the same as 06', with different colours.... The 06' is a better bike everywhere! Its not just a little lighter and revs alittle more! It is a different bike full stop!
tyrone 10-21-2006, 08:58 PM so what are the exact changes anyways??? Can someone specify? Thanks for your information...
|TCM|FT 10-21-2006, 10:47 PM bought mine brand new for 10,500 with a shoei 2 months ago. 04, 2 owners, and 7500 miles. Dont do it, there's better deals than that. You might have to drive a little to get tho. Good Luck!
Idaho_Spud 10-21-2006, 11:34 PM My experience is that bikes in SoCal are $500-$1500 more expensive than in other places... so if people are telling you that the price is too high, find out where they live. Chances are it's out of state.
On newer bikes perhaps this higher price is because CA models were equipped with catalytic converters (and perhaps other things I'm unaware of), which added to the OTD cost when new - and of course the seller wants as much return for his/her bike as possible.
Used bikes also tend to have higher mileage, especially in the coastal zones where the riding is pretty much year round.
Oh yeah - I wouldn't buy that particular bike. Get a new one or a *clean* low mileage used one that scares the piss out of its owner.
CBR1000RRMARINE 10-23-2006, 01:09 AM I live in Orange County California. I bought a 2005 CBR1000RR at Hahm Motorsports in Anaheim. I paid 9800 out the door. I opened my bike with the mechanic out of the crate. So I would spurge and get a newer one rather than the 04.
tyrone 10-26-2006, 12:47 AM thanks for all your advice...
i went to look at another 04 one tonight.. the price was good, the mileage and condition was good..
the only thing is it had a funny vin number... Most of the vin numbers are like 17 characters long and start with a J
this guys had a california vehicle ID number and it was like CA XXXXXX or something of that sort? Is it a stolen bike/title? Whats the scoop? It had a normal engine number though... It was too dark to look for anything else...
CBR1000RRMARINE 10-26-2006, 01:24 AM Mine starts with a J i have a cali bike. Like i said before I live in Orange county. Becareful on what you get. Take someone with you that is very very knowledgable on bikes. Telling you man just go to Hahm. If you want I know some people up there that can get you a good deal. Just say the magic words.

CBR1000RRMARINE 10-27-2006, 01:03 AM If you want 2006 I can get you a smokin deal but if you want 05 I can get you a better deal. Let me know man. Plus you have to figure prices will drop in another month or two due to the fact its "winter" You and I both know thats not the case here in SOCAL but not enough people buy bikes during those times. Like I said man just let me know.

menefreghista 11-02-2006, 05:53 AM hey tyrone
have you checked Craigslist lately ? both LA & OC have almost 1/2 a dozen 1000rr's on sale
tyrone 11-02-2006, 10:43 PM i check all those daily... recycler.com cycletrader.com even ebay!!! It sux because most people are way above the blue book price.... which is lame... the say well oh you live in southern california.. but blue book takes that into consideration when you type your zip code in...
I might just be better off buying a brand new 06 from that hahm motorsports in anaheim?? I'm gonna wait to hear from cbrmarine1000 first..
