View Full Version : Tires Tires Tires Tires and more Tires
chainstretcher 11-22-2004, 07:51 PM To a lot of people they are something round and black and nothing more. To some of us they can mean the difference between a thrilling ride or a ride in the meat wagon. So my new ride came with Pirelli Diablo Corsas on it (1kRR). The alternate tire for my bike is the Bridgestone BT014.
Now I've done research and tried many types of tires and I'd settled in to the fact that I prefer the Bridgestones. Just my thang but since my bike came with Pirelli's if figured I'd give them a fair shot. First, I see that the Pirelli's are about $160 - $200 a set more than the 14's. Sure, they handle well in dry, sandy and wet. No high speed wobbly stuff. Heat up quickly and plain just stick. The Bridgestones have been just as good. In fact, I've taken a set of BT010's to 228mph and held it for a couple of miles and that baby was solid.
So what do you guys think? What's your tire preference? As for me, I'll swap back to Bridgestone once I grind the Pirelli's down.
I just started ridding and i have no Idea what tires i like. Have to try some new one soon.
Any one have a good idea of a good tire in AZ. really dont need anything for wet becasue it hardly rains here :).
Thank
Nipz~
I have Diablos on my bike and love them. (not Corsa's though)
228mph??????? What kind of mods have you done? Turbo???????? and NOS???
I would suggest that you have some serious speedo error going on.
chainstretcher 11-23-2004, 06:14 PM Duke -- it wasn't on the CBR. My last bike was a turbo-hayabusa. No speedo error -- GPS speed verification.
Calkidd 11-26-2004, 12:10 AM Hello all,
I have been through Brigdestone BT-010s, Avon AV-45/46 and Pirelli Diablos over the past 14,000 miles. So far I have felt more confident and comfortable on the Diablos. I believe the Daiblos have a different profile than the others along with the compound composition.
NeonspeedRT 11-26-2004, 02:01 AM Personally i'm a big fan of the Metzler M1's. I have also heard great things about the Pirelli Diablo's, but I don't have any first hand experience with them. How were the Avon's? I have had several people tell me those were some of the longest lasting tires they have had.
Calkidd 11-26-2004, 02:32 AM Yeah that seems to be the case with those tires. Big Kahuna ( the other forum) was able to get two rear tires to one front tire.
I on the other hand am too hard on tires, I can't remember what kind of mileage I got.
wade280 11-27-2004, 03:18 AM has anyone tried a tomahawk tire??? they seam to be real cheep.
sirlimpzalot 11-27-2004, 02:24 PM Check out the CBR1000 page and there is someone using the Tomahawk tires
Big Kahuna 11-28-2004, 12:55 AM I favorite tires for my type of riding which is all street, no track are the Avon Azaro 45/46's. Hands down the best tire for grip and longevity.
I used to get two fronts for each rear, but with my last few sets of Avons and now BT-014's, they've both worn evenly.
Although I like the new BT-014's, they aren't lasting as long as the Avons and I will definitely be going back to Avon for my next set.
NeonspeedRT 11-28-2004, 12:58 AM How are the Avon's for agressive street riding? I have my 600F3 to take to the track, so my 900RR will just be used on the street. I like the Avon's because several people, including you have said they last alot longer then other tires. I'm really thinking about trying them out now. Do they warm up farily quick? Thats the big thing I love about the Metzlers.
Dragon 11-29-2004, 07:19 PM I use the Bridgestone...I don't do a lot of canyon riding but what i do is nice...tires seem great...
chainstretcher 11-29-2004, 09:26 PM Dragon -- which Bridgestone's? I haven't used a full set yet. Last set was 14 up front and a 10 in the rear. Ya ya ya, I know -- never mix ... yada yada yada ... but they were both Bridgestone and it worked out great. Next set after the Pirelli's will be 14's fore and aft. Pirelli's have been good so far -- but only 1068 miles so far. Time will tell ......
Tomahawk tires -- my personal opinion on the tomahawk's is I wouldn't try it on a dare. I'm a frikkin dare devil for some things but I just think that color pretty tires are for squids. I'm sure that they hold up well for normal riding and possibly for balls to the wall riding. My bike is silver/black so Bridgestone black matches my color scheme really well. Don't need any fancy colors for my tires thank you.
For you dudes that choose to use the color pretty Tomahawk's -- give us the low down. Heat up, cornering, traction, traction, traction!!!! How do these tires compare with the big boys?
