Well to make a long story short, I was looking for a wrecked f4i for a track bike to complement my 05 F4i street bike. I found a local club member with a wrecked 02. I ended up leaving it streetable to preserve some value and re-use some existing pieces, and since it needed pretty much everything painted, it was a blank palette. I was really digging the orange rims on the Repsol MotoGP bike, so I went with that (no Nicky Hayden envy, plus he wasn't doing as well when I made the decision as he is now). I got the stickers from alloutgraphics.com (very helpful and good service), all the paint in rattle cans from color-rite.com, and used a 2-part clear, Dupont Chromaclear I sprayed with a spray gun. All the stickers are under the clear. I didn't put on all the sponsor stickers, especially across the bottom, because they didn't fit the same as on the 1000rr.
I also did the 600rr swingarm mod with the intention of going with a centermount exhaust. The subframe on the 600rr and the f4i frame don't match up, but I'm not giving up just yet.
It's not 100% complete but you get the idea. It's been to the track twice and gets lots of attention, especially with all the black and primered bikes there.
And to answer any lingering questions, YES I know the Repsol Replica is a 1000RR.

ok, you need to get a seat cowl because i cant see any rear pegs on that and it would just be dangerous to be riding a chick with no rear pegs on there.

How does it handle with the RR swingarm compared to stock?
I have everthing to do the conversion, but I am still kind of worried about the handling since I have not compared any mesurements yet to make sure the geometry stays the same.
You said you have taken it to the track. Did you notice any difference compared to the stock F4i suspension?

the rear cowl is one of the unfinished parts. but it was intended as a track bike so no passengers. plus i never tow a passenger anyway.

the powdercoat guy never got back to me about matching the repsol orange, so i did them myself. the tire shop said i could bake them in the over for about an hour at 175 degrees to harden up the finish, but at that point i was there to get the tires put on. they did a good job and didn't scuff the paint installing them. i used a good automotive clear so it's fairly durable, but definitely not as good as powdercoating.

yeah i know. i want to get an underseat exhaust in there somehow. we'll see if i can wrangle the rr subframe i just won on ebay on it after it gets here.

i can't tell the difference. the ride height is the same, but it looks higher because of the swingarm. i never rode anything else on the track, but do have a stock 05 f4i also. i know i don't have it set up correctly either, i'll have to see what the "track" settings for the 1000rr rear shock is and start there.

a guy in our club who is also a motorcycle salesman suggested i sell it. now that i think about it, it worries me to ride it on the track. i do have a lot of time and money in it, especially the paint. if you're serious, pm me an offer and we can talk.

Good Job. Glad you took the plunge. You're an inspiration to us all. I looked at the color-rite.com site and they don't appear to have rattle-cans. It looks like it's gun type paint. Did I understand correct that the whole bike is spray can paint from them?

go here for the 2005 1000rr repsol paint (bottom 3 colors):
the aerosol cans for $33 each are what i used. then i clearcoated it with a two part automotive paint (left over from old civic), dupont chromaclear. i also got the special pads and finishing compounds for it, so after i wetsanded the clear with 2000 grit, i polished it out with 3m perfect-it III rubbing/polishing compounds, using the matching buffer pad (makes a big difference).

How could and F4i be "more stable"? It's a SOLID platform. Not clowning you, just a private thought that I shared with the world.
Blackdog F4i
08-24-2006, 02:00 PM
If anything the F4i is "too stable" when you really start to push it.
Shimming the shock 5mm and installing a damper turns it into a different bike.
I am still trying to deside if I want to put my 600rr swingarm on.
Jaybird180
08-24-2006, 03:14 PM
You mean raising the rear 5mm?
Blackdog F4i
08-24-2006, 04:13 PM
yes, buy you are doing it at the upper shock mount so as not to alter the geometry of the lower link.
It will make the bike turn in quicker, but you lose some straight line stability.
Jaybird180
08-24-2006, 05:49 PM
What do you mean by straght line stability, like frequent tankslappers?
Blackdog F4i
08-24-2006, 06:51 PM
Not frequent, but greater probability. Like anything, handling is a tradeoff. If you want better turn in, you have to sacrifice stability, which is resistance to turn in. Cruisers are stupid stable, but turn like ass. A MotoGP bike handles like it's telepathic, but without a damper would be tankslap city.

i ended up using three sets of cans of the orange (wheels and tank sucked it up)and one of the rest. you can use a generic base coat color - the red and orange require white; the pearl siren blue requires black. that will save you over $100, although i learned the hard way. i got the stickers from alloutgraphics.com. they had the REPSOL on the side on white vinyl with a wavy bottom - but it was not tall enough so i had him send me just the REPSOL and i painted the white background for it. all the stickers are under the clear so it looks much better. i also had to modify the wings on the tank since the 1000RR tank is not the same shape.
the stickers were $85.i ended up spending about $500 for the paint from color-rite.com, and that's not including the clear. i used dupont chomaclear but lately have been spraying the PPG shopline 630 clear and it is awesome. cheap too.
i haven't ridden it since last summer, i've only been riding on the track with my track-only racebike. i started racing this year and am doing pretty well. so it is with a heavy heart that i must sell my bike. i put it on ebay tonight.
the good news is that the pics are pretty nice and you can see all the mods. check them out. (btw the old pics are still up and i can see them fine???)
