If I didn't have a full-face helmet on when I got cut off by the car, I would have a pretty messed up face. I wear it, no matter what.

Here in California, it is the law so I have no choice. I think I would wear one anyways though.

When I'm riding a motorcycle, my helmet's strapped to my head. I've seen someone die from a head injury going 10 mph. not cool.

I'm still an AMA member, but it fries me that they put so much energy and money into fighting helmet laws. They're mandatory here in Oregon, I wish it was that way everywhere. Independece-smindependence.... wearing one or not DOES affect your friends, family, all our insurance rates, the emergency workers who have to deal with you, etcetc.

Have friends, were on their way to Sturgis, hit the Idaho border, took off their helmets, half mile later took a turn too wide and crashed, passenger wife hit her head and was killed. No other injuries.

On our Big Trip last summer, met up with a group who'd had one of them go off the road, he was mostly fine, his full face helmet shield was opaque from scaping along the road and his chin bar was broken - his buddy who was also in a full face helmet, said he was throwing away his half helmet he used around town when he got home. That helmet should go on display somewhere.

I dont think wearing a helmet should be an option. Yes it may suck for those days you decide to do your hair. And, it may suck for hot days. But, I would rather have sweat dripping down my face than rip my face off in an accident.

Not to mention, my boyfriend wrecked his motorcycle pretty bad not too long ago. Since then, he has preached wearing gear. So, even if I didnt like it, I would have to anyway. :)

HELMETS are almost as controversial as POLITICS..... almost. i have heard some heated arguments about them. in my heart i know that a helmet should always be worn. and i mostly wear them , with the exception of riding around the block when i need a bike fix..........

but..............., i am a police officer, and i see alot of crashes. and for the most part a helmet will save your ass.(head). but, i have seen crashes where it would not matter if you have a full body suit of armor on.

so, i am all for helmets. its just when i see the "nasty crashes", my head just momentarily thinks, what the hell does it matter. so, not to be argumentative, i know i should wear mine all the time- even around the block...........PEACE!!!!!

helmets are only required here in PA if you don't have your license....but it really bothers me when i see people without them on...its like not wearing a seatbelt..just stupid...its one of the simplest things you can do to try and save your life in case of an accident...i dont really feel bad for those that get head injuries when they arent wearing a helmet...but thats just me

After losing both my father & father in law in motorcycle accidents, I always wear my helmet. My father's death may have been prevented by a helmet (he wasn't wearing one due to working as an undercover cop). My father in law was wearing one but his injuries were too severe for it to make a difference. Besides, I figure I'm ditsy enough without slamming my head into the pavement. :D

I always wear one, no matter what. We don't have a helmet law, but I dont want to take my chances. Plus, I love my pink helmet, so I dont mind showing it off :)

p.s. I am editing this as I just realized that I am logged in under my b/f name. this is suppose to be by nlucas3020...sorry

It's the law in NJ too, but I think that you'd have to be a moron not to wear a full-face!

Why do they even debate this issue??? I would not even think twice. Put the helmet on. Think of your family while putting it on.

I'm with you JENNAY...it's one of the simplest things you can do to help save your life in the event of an accident. I don't have a lot of respect for people that don't wear them, do they think they're invincible and nothing bad will ever happen to them?! IGNORANT ASSES. They get what they deserve.
Who wants bugs smashed inyour face and hair anyway...haha...just kidding.
Full face helmet always!

In Maryland it's a state law to always wear a helmet but it doesn't matter if it's full face, three quarter, or half helmet. I bought a full face and love it, not only does it protect me so much better than the other options, it also eliminates almost all of the wind noise and of course is a life saver (no pun intended) in rain... I'd rather wearit and be safe than not and be sorry

Personally, I wear a full faced helmet always. The helmet has saved my life on at least two occassions over the years. I would wear one law or not. IL does not have a law except for children under 15. I think that is the age, could be wrong. I also replace them every three years.

One thing I do not care for is the helmet "law" in general. I do not care for the government telling me how to live my life. I can be responsible without government intervention. This opinion also applies to seat belt laws, smoking laws and so on... Next thing you know the GOV will be telling me when to eat, sleep and go to the bathroom.

PA used to have a helmet law, but it has been amended a few years back. If I remember correctly (can't find the actual statute), you have to be over the age of 18 and had the motorcycle license for 2 years. I believe it's illegal to operate a motorcycle without at least the permit (with which you can't ride at night and can't carry passengers). The funny thing...is that we do have a seatbelt law.

My MSF instructor said that there is only 1 reason to not wear a helmet. Freedom of choice. My friend doesn't wear a helmet. I think he is an idiot. Then again, he's a Harley rider and thinks that having big loud pipes is used to make sure people know you are there. He also states that helmets cause you to break your neck in the accident. Well, I'm a computer programmer...so maybe I take my mind a little more seriously than others.

I concur on Acara's thought about the government. I think laws that are used to protect others from our own indescretions are a necessary evil but I don't think the goverment should try to prevent you from removing yourself from the gene pool.

So, yesterday...the neighborhood kids were riding their bicycles. My neighbor yells to the one nephew "...where's your helmet...you came here with one, you wear it." To which he replies, "...I like the wind blowing through my hair." All I could do is sit there and shake my head. He's 6 yrs old.

That's cute but oh so stupid... I remember the innocent days of neighborhood bike races but my mom would NEVER let us leave without helmets and pads... I mean I understand the little boy, but still he might not have hair for the wind to blow through when he has to get surgery on his skull to relief the pressure on his brain after a crash... morbid I know but realistic...

I dont even have my bike yet, so I dont know how much room I have to talk.
But, ive pushed my luck one too many times, I dont think I would be able to go without a helmet.
Its like a seatbelt, it can save you. Too many bad drivers and justflat-out stupid people these days.

I like this an area for just the girls, this is awesome!

The abate members in Florida have made it so that we don't have to wear helmets, but I disagree with it! In fact the lady that was the main participant in changing the law to no helmet died 2 weeks later, doctors say she would've lived if she was wearing a helmet.
Personally I always wear my helmet. I have to admit this last weekend in our annual toys for tots run, I didn't. There was over 6,000 bikes going slow mph and not a very long distance. I would've worn it too, and planned on it but it got extremely hot. No excuse, I know, and I of all people should know better. But I gear up everytime I ride, boots over the ankle, pants, jacket, helmet, gloves... Don't feel safe otherwise

I believe in wearing helmets all the time. Helmets save lives! Remember your actions
affect not only you but friends and family, not wearing one could prove fatal as opposed to
walking away with your noggin intact!:D

i'm sorry to butt into the ladi's lounge but i hafta comment on this.. i'm and emt in new jersey and for those dont' kno its the person who drives the ambulances. I KNO FROM EXPERIENCE wear the full helmet. i had a pt. last year ridin a big crusier get hit by a car and he was wearin a "brain bucket" and yea a decent amount of his head was left behind in the helmet. he hit the ground and his helmet served ABSOLUTELY NO PURPOSE B/C IT CAME OFF ON THE INITIAL IMPACT. It wasn't a good day for that guy if he still has any days left..it WAS NOT NICE AT ALL. so please don't let anyone influence you wear the full helmet. i've seen people be hit and dispite the full helmet being cracked halfway off their heads that energy from hitting the pavement went to the helmet and not directly to the skull. sorry to be long winded but i see it EVERY SINGLE SUMMER!!! be safe
