Alright guys when i start my bike up cold (35 below) i hear a small ticking almost along the same pattern as the cam. Once the bike is up to around 40+ the ticking goes away. I don;t know whats going on, possibly oil??? Well at the begining of the season i had the cam chain tensioner done and the valves reseated and such by a reputable shop. So the head should be in top shape!
ANY SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT THIS MIGHT BE????
When i called the shop they said that it is prone to having the cam journal seize and that i should just ride it because if there is any damanage it has already been done. He said no problem riding it because nothing is gonna break. I am gonna bring it in next week, but what do you guys suggest.

I think he's using metric system for temp gauge. Mine does it to, I always attributed it to oil circulation like on cars. Alot of these noises are just more pronounced do to exposier of motor.

+1 on the exposure... i freak when i hear any new sound coming from my motor. if it doesnt sound like its something REALLY pronounced and wrong, ill take it for a ride and it usually goes away.

they told you if a metal component in yur top-end froze, you should still be able to ride it?????? and if that is the case then change your oil and look for copper lookin shavings or any metal period.....if somethin seized internal then you will have metal in oil

is it new?
my 06 did it for a couple months (bought it with 0.4 miles on it). it was "piston slap"
after a couple months (maybe 1k miles) it went away.

dang, my bike does the same thing 02, with 7800 miles and its from cold start to about 40*C nigs the crap outta me... so possibilities are, CCT(i have an ape manual cct on there) piston slap(slapping walls? or hitting the valves?) just a normal sound when warming up?

piston slap? if a piston 'slaps' a cylinder wall it will tear the sleeve all to hell, and as far as hitting valves go if you hit a valve with a piston it wont do it to many times and the motor will stop i say in the first 2 minutes....so valves and pistons are out....... i think you are not adjustind oil thickness in according with weather----oil is thick cold so if its thick in the beginning when you pour it in the bike, then it will be even thicker once its cold, keeping in mind that the oil pick-up screen is the size of screen off off a screen door and can be difficult picking up a thick mixture............try to think of it as drinking a milkshake with a coffee straw
