What is the size of the rear axle nut?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I need to loosen that baby to do my chain adjustment. I understand there are chain adjustment screws, but don't I have to loosen the axle first.

TIA

No offence bro but, [sm=icon_rtfm.gif]. Man, I love that smiley. Most of your maintenance questions will be in there. As far as the size of the nut, it is 32mm's.

Yes you have to loosen the Axle bolt before adjusting the chain

No offence taken, 'cause the nut size is NOT in the manual. I was pretty sure you had to loosen the axle nut, but wanted confirmation, so I threw that out there.

Thanks for your help.

You have to be careful when reading the manuals. They usually list the thread size, not what size socket you'll need. I had to measure and buy the right size sockets for my axles and steering stem nut.

One thing to keep in mind for you guys and gals who haven’t had the change to collect the proper tools over the last 15 years of there "adult life", is that your 600's should have come with a tool bag and in that bag you should have the tool to loosen and tighten the rear axle nut. After you adjust the chain and tighten the nut good and tight, ride over to your local bike dealer and ask them to torque the nut down to specs. The torque for the rear axle nut is also listed in the user manual if can’t get to a Honda dealer.

In the 2006 tool bag all you get is a 5mm allen wrench and the helmet lock cable. Everything else is sold separate now, Honda is making you buy your tools. I had to buy my pin spanners to adjust my rear preload.
