RE: When do you replace the clutch?
A clutch will last a longtime depending on how you ride it. case in point I change out the clutch about 2-3K but I drag race the bike. I have a friend that i just changed his and he has 9K on it. so their is not a real answer their for miles. You will start to feel the clutch get soft feel to it, use the adj on it. If it is adj out and you start to feel soft then get the parts. Also a tell is sitting in gear with a warm bike rev it up to 10 K or so if the bike wants to learch on you it is time.

RE: When do you replace the clutch?
My 900RR had 28K on the original when I sold the bike and my 1000 now has over 30k on the original with wheelies, track days, little drag racing (slow 60ft times) and commuting. They will go a VERY long time if dont wheelie with the clutch and/or drag race and get 1.70 60ft times.

take your clutch cover off and inspect it, measure the friction plate thickness, check your steel plates for warpage, check clutch basket for wear. service limits should be in your service manual, if everything checks out, you are good.

You can know if it is slipping by one way. Going somewhat slow, around 30mph. Put it in 2nd or 3rd gear. Then go wide open throttle instantly!!! If the RPM's spin up without increasing speed, then your clutch is slipping. And before any of you say that "your bike will spin the tire in 2nd gear with ease". PLEEZE get a life. I don't know of any one bike out there that will spin the tire in 2nd gear, that is rolling at 30mph and just going WOT with just a twist of the wrist and not clutching it.
And just to let you know. The Honda clutches are awesome. I have 47000+ miles on the OEM clutch! And I have clutched up many wheelies, done Friday night drags, and many trackdays.

I agree with others. Replace it when it starts to slip. I highly doubt your tire is breaking loose. Just gun it, like previous said in 2nd or 3rd.
It should be fairly obvious if its slipping or not. And if its "slipping some times, breaking the tire loose others" then its slipping. Slipping some of the time still equals slip, so its toast if true.
And I'd replace only with OEM. I've had trouble (albeit minor) with after-market clutches. Especially for street use.
