Default Decatting 600F

Hi all,

After many nights of research I still dont have a an answer to a few queries I have so hopefully someone on this forum will have the answers I need.

As you will all know, the CBR600F sounds terrible standard! Even after installing an Akra slip on, I didnt notice much improvment. After watching several youtube videos Ive decided to go down the decat route.

The questions I have;
Can the cat be removed from the existing header pipes (by an exhaust specialist), or would I need to purchase a complete new header system?
Would the bike need mapped following the completion of the decat works? Ive seen mixed opinions so would like to hear from someone who actually have/had it done. Ive also seen people advising a power commander would be required... Is this really necessary?

Any help would be appreciated

Post a pic of the exhaust, especially one with the cat.

Has anyone else done a decat on the 600f?

I was told by DYNO that they would install a power commander on my bike and do a custom remap for £548. Does that sound about right for price?

I installed a black widow decat header system on my 2012 cbr600f and have experienced absolutely no issues. It runs as smooth as ever and I never had it remapped.

Cheers for the reply, only just spotted it. Have you got any videos of before and after? I can imagine it's a lot better sounding now you've made the change. I too thought the Akro sounded pretty similar to the stock exhaust.

hi Lee

I have a 2011 cbr 600 and I had the same problem put an aftermarket exhaust on and didn't sound any different so I went the route of getting the cat taken out but they were going to charge me nearly £300 so I just went online and bought the black widow front header system for under £200 then put a aftermarket back box with removable baffle and it sounds loud with the baffle out, Also you don't need to have it remapped I did my 2 years ago with no problems hope this helps here is the pic with it on

I did a decat pipe on my '17 600RR, and its great. Local well known dyno person told me that I wouldn't need a reflash. he says that they are rich up top stock so if it does lean out a small amount, its ok. Ridden about 500km on it so far and its all positive.

Thumbs up Decat low revs issue sorted on CBR600FA

I have just taken off the stock headers and cat from my CBR600FA 2011, already had a Scorpion titanium end can on it, sounded like a strangled cat before!
Fitted Black Widow decat system, comes in lots of parts and a doddle to fit, only had to remove the RH side fairing as well, fitted the existing Lambda sensor in new system and sounds like a proper bike now and twice as loud, got a DB killer that is removable as well.
After a few local rides I noticed that high revs the bike is fine but low down in town and round roundabouts the revs are up and down and the throttle is a bit snatchy and on/off, not smooth at all.
Was going down the power commander route when a mate with a KTM superduke put me to a product called Boosterplug.
I was very sceptical about using this as I've never heard of it before, anyway, bit the bullet and bought one, arrived very quickly from Denmark, comes with bike specific instructions, really easy to fit using the OE plus to ECU and air intake sensor, can post pics if anybody wants them, routed the external sensor down where the gear change is.
Took it out on Saturday and problem solved, does not work straight away but as soon as you have a few miles under your belt it is a lot better, smoother down low now, not snatchy at all, only cost £120 and if you can do a bit of DIY on your bike an easy fit/solution.
